My first word was Baum, which in German means tree. I am Swiss American and grew up in New York City and upstate New York. I am 13 and in 8th grade at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School. In addition to making art, I am a serious soccer player and violinist.
For this exhibition series, I chose mostly trees and nature to reflect my first artistic inspiration. The drawings are mostly charcoal on paper. The landscape painting is unique in that my teacher, Tim Smith and I, constructed the canvas and frame and made paint from pigments for the background color. With Tim, I have also explored other materials, subjects, and styles, as shown by the larger vertical abstract piece. This piece is pastel and paper. The exercise required that for part of the drawing process, I was blindfolded, and I used my left hand (I am right-handed).
I have recently been inspired by perspective drawing and architectural design. I am grateful and excited to have this opportunity to share my work with you.
