Indigo Anjali Fray

Artist Statement:

Hi! My name is Indigo Anjali Fray. I’m 14 yrs old. I have been performing and creating art since I was
little. I love all the Arts, such as drama, writing, and the visual arts. I write and perform my own songs. I used to perform with the Brooklyn Rockers and my afterschool
program Rock Band at various venues. During which I performed one of my original songs “Pretty,
Pretty, Pigeon.” Shortly after that, I adopted a beautiful Royal Snow Tumbler Pigeon from Sean Casey
Animal Rescue in August of 2019.

It must have been destiny. The following year, I wrote and
performed a song titled Creampuff, inspired by my newly adopted friend of the same name.
As with the art presented in this show, I draw my inspiration from CreamPuff, other animals, mythical
creatures, and nature. I started and completed the first series of images of pigeons during the
pandemic. I created a Pigeon Museum of famous and not so famous pigeons for CreamPuff to enjoy.
Samples from the Museum are displayed here at THE BRICK.
The art I am presenting here was created with different materials such as paint, crayons, markers,
paper, fabric, and collage. I sometimes create pieces digitally. I also like to upcycle by creating
creatures and art from discarded and found objects.
I love all creatures big, small, real, and mythical. I have chosen Palomacy Pigeon and Dove
Rescue/Adoption (pigeonrescue.org) as my charity. I <3 pigeons!

Curator Statement:

Indigo’s paintings are filled with an uninhibited richness and her personality and sense of humor shines through every piece she makes.

What immediately strikes me is Indigo’s innate understanding of structure. Her work is firmly anchored to the four sides of the picture plane activating the entire image. That is to say the paintings consistently lock together like Whimsical jigsaw puzzles. She has a wealth of ideas and is extremely curious about different materials and subject matter, she clearly loves what she is making and it certainly shows.
